When I first joined Medium, I was excited. I was an aspiring writer and I knew little about writing. As an average writer, I didn’t get many views and claps when I started. If you are a beginner too, you can understand how it feels. However, as an aspiring writer, the quality of my writing was not that good.

I knew I need to improve a lot to be a better writer. I was trying to do something great with my writing. However, It’s hard to get things done without commitment. I made $0.90 in the first month of writing on Medium. I knew I could make more, but I wasn’t that active.

Furthermore, I believe if I would not have made those mistakes I will surely be in the club of writers who are making $100 per month. It’s hard to get in that club because only 7% of writers on Medium can make $100 per month. I hope you do not make the mistakes that I made in my beginning.

1. I took Medium for granted

When I joined Medium, I was excited. On the other side, after some time I started taking Medium for granted. For granted meaning, I didn’t have a proper plan about what to submit and where to submit.

Writers who are making $100 per month have a proper plan for writing and submitting their articles to the publication. When you don’t have a proper plan, it’s hard to get success on Medium. You need to be dedicated to your writing. I wasn’t able to give much time to Medium. I hoped I could make the most of it. However, I wasn’t able to do so.

If you are a beginner, come to this platform with a proper plan and dedication. It will be easy for you to generate more income and get the attention of the readers.

2. I didn’t publish regularly

As I said, I took Medium for granted. I published on Medium when I felt like doing so. I didn’t force myself to write regularly and publish. Likewise, I mostly wrote poems on the initial days of my Medium writing journey.

If you have read some successful writers on Medium, they always advise you to publish 4–5 times in a week to get the attention of readers. Publishing regularly makes you more consistent with your writing. If you want to be successful on Medium, be consistent.

I thought of Medium as just a platform. However, it can be a life-changing platform for you. Make a plan and start writing.

3. I wrote for myself rather than an audience

Writing has been a hobby of mine since my childhood. I used to keep a diary. I mostly wrote poems and letters. Therefore, when I started writing on Medium I used to publish what I liked and what I wanted. I thought I should write for myself, which was my biggest mistake. If you want to write for yourself, write in your journal.

If you want to be successful on a platform like Medium, write for the audience. You are getting money because readers want something of value from writers, and they are paying for it. If you want to be successful in this competitive platform, write for your readers and ask for their feedback.

Plans For The Future

After making such mistakes, I want to take Medium seriously. Since One month, I am publishing on Medium regularly. I have seen significant improvements in my views and money. I made $30 last month. My goal is to reach the $100 mark in the upcoming 3 months

These are the three mistakes I have made so far. I want all of you not to make these same mistakes. Everyone has to manage their time. Being a student, it’s hard for me to get some extra time. Many people work and still find the time to write on Medium. Hard work always pays off.

I hope this post will help you achieve success on Medium. In the end, Medium just needs your efforts and quality writing to make you successful.
